All Heart.
All Nerds.

Unravel is a small crew of strategists, builders, writers, diabolical geniuses, Oreo twisters, semicolon defenders, amateur baristas with professional opinions, and either way too many horse girls or not enough (we're still running the numbers). We've always hired the best talent we could find from every corner of the galaxy, and pointed it at clients all over the world.

Some Real
(and Absurd) Stats.

An agency that sells measurement should survive being measured. Most of these are audited. One is a lifestyle.

2017

the year it all started

A tiny office in Midtown Reno, one laptop, and an aggressively optimistic plan.

Still optimistic
483

From five-page brochures to 10,000-page franchise networks. We've seen things.

A staggering number that gets less staggering once you learn most of them are dog photos.

We counted
4,096

times "you're on mute" has been said

Since 2020, across every meeting, in every time zone we work from. Exactly a power of two, which our developers insist is not a coincidence.

Six dogs, two cats, one baby. None of them are good at meetings. All of them are great at meetings.

Synergy, leverage-as-a-verb, circle back: all banned. Violators buy the team coffee, remotely if necessary. Enforcement is merciless.

The story

Founded in Reno.
Built on Receipts.

Unravel started in 2017 with a simple grievance: marketing had become a black box, and agencies liked it that way. We built the opposite, from a renovated 1920s brick building a few blocks south of the Truckee River. Reno is where we're from, not where we stop: our clients run storefronts, practices, and platforms across the U.S. and around the world, and the team stretches from Reno-Tahoe to San Diego to Charlotte to wherever great talent happens to live. The name is the mission: we untangle.

  • Strategy before tactics
  • Real metrics, not vanity
  • Kill the deck
  • Nice people, sharp work
  • Compounding beats sprinting

Serious Talent.
Unserious Slack Channels.

The crew

Small Mighty Team.
Stupidly Talented.

Puzzle-hungry, problem-solving, ridiculously talented humans who bring big ideas, sharp instincts, questionable amounts of caffeine, and an almost unfair amount of brainpower and creative firepower to everything they do.

Common questions

Things People
Actually Ask.

Everything you were going to ask anyway, plus one about laundry.

Who actually works on my account?

The faces you just scrolled past: that's not a stock-photo grid, that's the entire company. Nobody pitches you and then vanishes behind a junior team. The people who win your business do the work, answer their own email, and stick around long enough to watch your strategy pay off.

Why 'Unravel'?

Most of our work starts with someone saying some version of 'something is off and we're not sure what.' The job is to unravel it: figure out what's working, what's broken, and what's a distraction, then build something simpler in its place. Also, the URL was available, which is a small miracle in this industry.

Do you only work with businesses in Reno?

Not even close. We work with clients all over the world, across time zones and industries, from home bases in Reno, San Diego, and Charlotte. Great marketing travels well over Slack, Zoom, and shared docs. The office is for the team, the dogs, and visiting clients who want to see the espresso machine in action.

Are you hiring?

Sometimes, and always selectively. Openings live on our careers page, along with the standing invitation: if you think you belong here and don't see your role, introduce yourself anyway. We keep good people in mind.

What's the origin story?

It was 2017. A group of friends piled into a van with a talking dog, traveling the country solving mysteries and unmasking villains who would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for... hang on. No. That's Scooby-Doo. We keep doing that. Our actual origin story, which admittedly also involves a group of friends: we started small, building websites for anyone who needed one, occasionally paid in muffins. We've grown entirely through referrals since, because we genuinely love learning how each business works and finding the unique angles that bring it more customers. And we're still unmasking villains, if you count broken analytics setups.

Where do missing socks go?

Our leading theory involves a secret portal behind the dryer drum, opening onto a parallel universe populated entirely by single left socks, living free. Could we investigate? Probably. We untangle things for a living. But some mysteries deserve to stay unsolved, and honestly, we think they're happier there.
